Description

Idyllic landscape scene with trees surrounding a small reflective lake. A fallen tree-trunk and two cows provide scale in the foreground. A church steeple can just be seen in the right-background.

Production person note

Gill (1820-1894) was a landscape painter who lived at Linn Villa, Sutton, Surrey around 1880. He specialised in waterfalls and scenes of storms off the Cornwall Coast. He exhibited with the following organisations: Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; the Royal Academy; the Royal Society of British Artists; the Royal Hibernian Academy; the Royal Institute of Oil Painters; and the Arthur Tooth and Sons Gallery.
