Description

Portrait of a woman seated on a sofa against a dark background. She sits with her body in profile facing to the viewer's left, and her head facing forwards. She wears a dark patterned dress with long sleeves, and a white ruff collar. Her hair is dark and curly, pinned up with curls loose over the ears.

Production person note

Renton was the son of a gardener and lived in Hoxton. He exhibited with the Royal Academy from 1799 - 1840, submitting some 40 pictures. He specialised in portraits of religious nonconformists.
