Description

This net has a short wooden handle with a hole through one end where a piece of faded green rope has been fed through and tied in a knot. This makeshift strap was used for hanging net up. The D-shaped metal end forms a frame for the green net, which is attached with white stitches. The net was used to fish eels out of wooden drawers kept in the back of the eel, pie and mash shop called F. Cooke & Sons on Kingsland Road. The building has now become a Chinese restaurant but the new owners have kept many of the original art deco fittings.
