Description

This type of shoe is known as a Blucher clog and was popular in the UK just before the First World War. Worn for 'wet' work such as stable or brewery work, the clog has been given extra water resistance by the addition of a flap covering the shoe laces. With thick wooden soles and steel toe caps, these were sturdy shoes made for working men. This pair have been inscribed 'I. Hogarth' inside each shoe, presumably to identify the owner if they were lost.
